Camila Vallejo Dowling (b. 1988) is a leftist Chilean politician who is currently the Minister Secretary General of Government — the government's chief spokesperson. She is a member of the Communist Party of Chile; her parents, also communists, were involved in the resistance to right-wing dictator Augusto Pinochet.
She gained global attention as a 23-year-old college student when, as head of the nation's largest student union, and led the Chilean student protests of 2011, which included the occupation of more than 100 schools and demonstrations of up to 600,000 people. The New York Times labeled her "the world's most glamorous revolutionary" and The Guardian's readers voted her Person of the Year. She was elected to Chile's Congress, where she served eight years, before joining the new leftist government of 35-year-old Gabriel Boric, another former student leader, in 2022.
