Katie Leclerc (b. 1986) is an American actress. She's best known for playing one of the leads on the ABC Family show Switched at Birth (2011-2017).
Her character, Daphne Vasquez, was deaf and Leclerc played her with a deaf accent, which some considered a breakthrough for representation and others considered a sort of minstrelsy that took a job away from an actual deaf person. (Leclerc was diagnosed with Ménière’s Disease at age 20; it can cause intermittent hearing loss and prompted her to learn American Sign Language. But she's not deaf and speaks without a deaf accent in real life.)
