Courtney Barnett (b. 1987) is an Australian singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Pitchfork called her music "a refreshing anomaly...smart but not intellectual, humble but not wimpy, into the past but not theatrical about it." The Guardian describes her lyrics as "intriguing, compelling and down-to-earth, yet surreal and morbidly funny."
Her first album (probably still her best) was 2015's Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, which earned her a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. Her followups, 2018's Tell Me How You Really Feel and 2021's Things Take Time, Take Time, are a little quieter and less rockish, but still quite good. In some ways, the spiritual successor to her debut is Lotta Sea Lice, her collaborative album with slacker guitar god Kurt Vile.
